NEW MUSIC: Cill – Tatarata

Cill (born Chioma Ogbonna) is a Singer/Songwriter,guitarist based in Lagos State, Nigeria. Born and raised in Edo State, Nigeria to a family of seven,she was drawn to music at an early age, her interest in music was fueled by her eldest brother who constantly introduced anyone who cared to
listen new music in various genre and her father who would wake up each morning to tunes from Jimmy Reeves, Christy Lane, Don Williams, Majek Fashek, Evi Edna, Sunny Okosun, etc..

She picked up an interest in the guitar and used her first salary as a teacher to purchase her first guitar. Then ultimate proof of her love for music was when she left her job at KPMG in 2016 to pursue a career in music. She loves telling stories using music, stories about love and life experiences.

Cill is always connected to everything around her and most of her music comes from the different places she has been to and you will see how She does this with so much grace and a passionate voice that will take you on a journey pushing good music, one song at a time while making music in various genres consisting of unique blends from alternative rock, folk, to soul and country music with great splashes of her ‘African-ness’.

Cill also uses her music for promoting social causes and is a member of the Music for Democracy Network collaborating with other artists from different parts of the world to push issues of democracy using music. She is the winner of the 2019 Accountability Music Award by Accountability Lab and One Campaign,nominated alongside great artists such as Falz, Fatoumata Diawara, Sauti Sol and Platinum Prince.

As a songwriter, she is the founder of the Songwriting Community; a community of songwriters who challenge themselves to write more. She is credited for writing songs for the Biola Alabi movie, ‘Lara and the Beat’, and the official soundtrack of the movie “Miracle” by Belinda Efa. She has shared the stage with various Artists like Joe Boy, Fireboy, Olamide, Johnny Drille, MI, Poe, Di’Ja etc.

Her mash up of Joeboy and Fireboy’s songs ‘baby’ and ‘jealous’ receives rave review from all her listeners, reaching 450,000 streams on YouTube. She’s gradually working her way up to becoming a known name and believes in spreading quality music like wildfire knowing that someday good music will eventually chase bad music out of the industry.
