NEW ALBUM

NEW ALBUM: Common – Let Love

Common is back, y’all.

Nearly three decades since his debut, the Chicago veteran returns with his 12th studio album Let Love. Inspired by his memoir Let Love Have the Last Word, which he released in May, the 11 tracks feature collaborations with Daniel Caesar, Swizz Beatz, Leon Bridges, Dwele, and Leikeli47, with production from Karriem Riggins, Samora Pinderhughes, A-Trak, and the legendary J Dilla (“HER Love”).

On the Jill Scott-assisted “Show Me That You Love,” he recounts a late-night phone call he received from his daughter that forced him to reconsider his approach to fatherhood, while taking on mental health and sexual assault on the powerful “Memories of Home” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid.

Common describes the album as “Marvin Gaye meets DJ Premier meets Radiohead.” “The book was the seed that started me in this conversation,” he told Apple Music. “I believe that the energy of love and the act of love, the practice of it, is the thing that we can use as individuals and as people to overcome the heaviness of the times. When I say ‘Let Love,’ I’m saying put love into practice. Allow love to be the law that we abide by.”
