All ye who seek the consummate summer jam (2008 edition), hold tight: you’ve got but a couple months ’til Missy Elliott drops a whole platter of ‘em on you. According to a Billboard.com report, the incomparable MC/producer is looking to get her new album out there in August. And the album’s called Block Party.
Wait, Block Party? It took a contest to come up with Block Party? Well, sort of. In the companion Billboard magazine story, Elliott says, "I actually chose two. I’m releasing a preview to the album in the summer titled Fanomenal. When I saw all the people that entered the contest, I was overwhelmed. So I’m dedicating that one to my fans because they’ve rolled with me since day one." Billboard reports that Fanomenal will include "exclusive tracks and videos."
She adds, "I’m still up in the air about the name for the actual album, but for now it’s Block Party. The reason for that is because there are a lot of dance joints on there. It’s one of those albums you can play out in the streets."
You know, unlike all those staid museum pieces she’s given us in the past.
The disc will reportedly feature tunes like first single "Best Best", "Milk & Cookies", "Hip-Hop Don’t Die", and "Like When You Play the Music," as well as the previously released "Ching-A-Ling" and "Shake Your Pom Pom" Block Party will sport production work from Pharrell Williams, Danjahandz, T-Pain, Souldiggaz, Pointguard, and Elliott’s old friend Timbaland. She claims the album is "more musical and melodic" than her past work, with "sort of a U.K. hip-hop sound to it." Come on, Missy/Dizzee collabo!
Billboard also reports that a Missy tour is in the works for October, as well as a contest for dancers looking to appear in future Missy videos. She’s going to be a judge on MTV’s show "Dance Troop", too. And she’s going to host block parties over Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. Yes!
P.S. That Jazmine Sullivan song that Missy produced is HOT.
