(London, UK) – Well, May’s on the horizon, which can mean only one thing in London’s clubland: secretsundaze season is upon us! 2008′s opening party takes place on Sunday 4th May in the Courtyard of Ministry Of Sound in South London. Guests celebrating the new venue will be Swiss DJ-duo Mountain People (aka Serafin and Andre Rozzo) and Wagon Repair’s The Mole, alongside ss’ beloved residents James Priestley & Giles Smith.
Secretsundaze thrives on anticipation. Despite the fact that James Priestley and Giles Smith now have such a strong fanbase that they could easily get away with running the party all year, they would rather maintain the May-September fortnightly Sunday season, so their clubbers can dance in the sun (hopefully) and they can maintain their special vibe. And as the party grows – with more collaborations like Lovebox, Snowbombing and other one-offs of their own devising – this restraint seems like a pretty shrewd strategy.
Last year’s venue, Canvas, provided a huge space but it did perhaps lack the intimacy that has always been such a vital secretsundaze ingredient. The promoters hope this won’t be the same with the Courtyard of Ministry, which they describe as having ‘a Balearic feel’. Be warned though, it’s going to be BUSY….they always are, the openers especially aren’t for the faint-hearted!
But while the venue might be a warehouse (or its courtyard) secretsundaze production values are always top notch. The music is, of course, the main ingredient: this year’s openers Mountain People play their debut UK gig, while The Mole’s sure to go stellar when his album drops – secretsundaze might not be a secret anymore, but their bookings are still cutting-edge. No one could dispute that. See you at the afters at The Coronet round the corner!
